I just returned home from my annual trip to Atlanta Market. My feet are tired after averaging 11,000 steps a day, but I’m coming back with fresh inspiration and lots of new things for The Personal Gifting Co., and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
For those who may not be familiar, the Atlanta Market is a leading wholesale marketplace held at AmericasMart in downtown Atlanta. Spanning three buildings and 51 floors, it features more than 6,000 brands across categories such as gifts, home décor, seasonal, gourmet, tabletop, apparel, accessories, and more. It is where retailers like myself go to discover new products, connect with vendors, spot upcoming trends, and thoughtfully choose what will eventually make its way into our shops. It is part inspiration, part strategy, and part treasure hunt, with floors and floors of beautifully styled displays, new collections, and unique gift items that make me stop and think, “Our customers will love this.”
As A Retailer
As a retailer, I do not want to simply fill shelves. I want to curate a shopping experience. Every product that comes into The Personal Gifting Co. is chosen with great thought and with someone in mind: the friend who needs encouragement, the hostess who loves something thoughtful, the client who deserves appreciation, the bride, the teacher, the new homeowner, the mom, the graduate, or the person who is simply hard to buy for.
Going to market every year allows me to see products in person, feel the quality, notice the details, and imagine how each item might fit into the stories my customers are trying to tell through gifting. A photo in a catalog can only show so much. Walking through a showroom, talking with makers and vendors, and seeing how products come together in real life gives a clearer picture of what belongs in the shop.
Inspiration
It also gives me the opportunity to stay inspired. Retail changes so quickly, and gifting is personal. What people are drawn to, what feels fresh, and what feels meaningful all matter. Going to market helps me bring back pieces that feel current, useful, and special while staying true to the heart and brand of my shop.
One of my favorite parts of attending the market is thinking about you, my clients, while I shop. I find myself saying things like, “This would be perfect for a birthday gift box,” or “This would make the sweetest hostess gift,” or “I know exactly who would love this.” That is the fun of owning a gift shop. It is about people and relationships.
I can’t wait to start introducing the new items I found at market. Some will be perfect for everyday gifting, some will be beautiful seasonal pieces, and some will be the kind of unique little finds that make a gift feel extra special.
